Different views are expressed in the Bhikku society over the new draft bill that was presented to parliament yesterday to start a dialogue on Theravada Bhikkus.
It is stated in the new draft bill that members of the Three Nikayas if engaged in occultation, publicizing such mystery, and using such occult for commercial purposes could be a punishable offence.
In addition, possessing driving license, driving vehicles, engaged in an employment, and behaving in unruly manner in public places have been prohibited for Bhikkus.
However senior lecturer of Sri Jayewardenepura University Dambara Amila Thera said that the new draft bill is a need of the hour.
Meanwhile Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera told during a media conference held in Colombo this morning said that he condemned the effort by laymen to set up disciplinary action for Bhikkus.
