Free Trade Zone Solidarity Forum arrived in front of the Presidential Secretariat this morning requesting the immediate release of the investigation report over the murder of Roshen Shanaka who was shot dead during a protest in the Katunayake Export Processing Zone.
The mother and two brothers of late Roshen Shanaka were accompanied by the forum members to the Presidential Secretariat.
Police opened fire on the protest staged by Free Trade Zone workers against the proposed pension scheme by the then government on May 30th 2011. Over 200 workers were injured during the police shooting and, Roshen Shanaka died of gunshot injuries a few days later. The previous government appointed a commission to probe the death, but the report has not yet been released.
However an Additional Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat N.A. Kodikara has met the Free Trade Zone Forum members and agreed to give them a solution within two weeks.
