Pivituru Hela Urumaya (PHU) has decided to go before the Supreme Court requesting a referendum over the Draft Bill presented to parliament in order to register a Theravada Ecclesiastical Code.

Party General Secretary and MP Udaya Gammanpila stated during a media conference held in Colombo today, that human rights have been violated by this new Draft Bill.

The proposed draft bill to register a Theravada Ecclesiastical Code has now become a controversial matter amongst Bhikkus.

However President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday that the new draft bill will not be be passed in a hurry.

Addressing a gathering of the Maha Sangha, he said the new Draft Bill will only be passed with the blessings of the Maha Sangha.
