A Notice was issued on the members of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) to appear before Appeal Court on 15th February.

The Notice was issued after considering a petition filed by SP Pradeep Panamaldeniya who requested the Court to issue an injunction over the recommendations made by the Human Rights Commission after a police attack on a group of HNDA students.

Accordingly, members of the Human Rights Commission are noticed to appear before Appeal Court on 15th February.

The Human Rights Commission which conducted the investigation on the police attack that took place in front of the University Grants Commission,  decided that the rights of students have indeed been violated.

Accordingly, the Commission recommended paying compensation to the affected party.

Challenging the Human Rights Commission decision, SP Panamaldeniya stated in his petition that police did not abuse their power during the incident.
