The Ceylon teachers union handed in a complaint to the Human Rights Commission with regard to the amendment made to the grade 5 scholarship exam cut off mark applicable to 8 Colombo schools.

Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin noted that this adjustment is an unjust move as it will be disadvantageous for students in the respective schools.

The Department of Education announced yesterday that the cut off mark will be reduced by one mark for students gaining admission to Royal College in Colombo, Ananda, Nalanda, D.S Senanayake, Isipathana, Thurstan, Mahanama and Pannipitiya Dharmpala College’s respectively.

The reason for this amendment came about following the addition of a grade 6 class at Royal College Colombo.

However, the Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers' Union Joseph Starling noted that there’s no statistical base for such a decrease.
