Several parties have begun to claim their ownership to the seat vacuumed by the demise of Minister M K D S Gunawardena on last 19th.

The late minister was selected to the Parliament through the national list of United National Party.

Claiming the vacant seat in the House, MP Chathura Senarathna says that according to the agreement concluded prior to the election, the power vacuum has to be supplied to the Democratic National Movement.

Meanwhile, Central Provincial council member Assad Sali remarked in a media conference held in Colombo on the 20th, that he should be given the opportunity to fill the vacant slot as he stands next in the National List.

However, Health Minister Rajitha Senarathna noted that it was unethical to debate about such matters when the final funeral rites to the late minister have not been performed yet.

The final funeral rites are to be performed at the Kanthale Leelarathna Stadium today (23rd).
