Sri Lanka Teachers Association (SLTA) accuses that Principals have started to demand bribes to enroll children to grade 1.

Chief Secretary of SLTA, Joseph Stalin notes that Principals skip maintaining student registers purposely to enroll more children into school out of circular, by receiving cash bribes.

Meanwhile, the Principal, Assistant Principal and another individual of Sewamuktha Vidyalaya, Polonnaruwa was taken into custody while receiving 7500 rupees to admit a child into grade 2.

However, on an inquiry about the incident by Hiru News, the Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam encouraged the public to report inducements into school admission to the Bribery Commission.
