A group of lawyers sent a letter of demand to the IGP, following his failure to respect the Court order and arrest the policemen who have been accused in the Embilipitiya fatal clash.

After updating the Acting Attorney General, a representative of the lawyers team Attorney-at-law Udul Premarathna expressed that the lethargy in adhering to the Court order cracks public’s faith on the Police.

The Court ordered the arrest of Ambilipitiya ASP, OIC and all other policemen who were involved in the clash with a group of residents where a youth died as a result of the police assault.

Thus, Attorney Premarathna warned the Police that a legal case will be filed at a relevant Court for ignoring court order, failure to respect the court and violating the respect of government service and police service, unless the accused will be remanded within 24 hours.

Embilipitiya Additional Magistrate Prasanna Fernando ordered the Crimes Investigation Department on last 27th to arrest all suspects including former Embilipitiya ASP D.W.C. Dharmaratne and former HQI Dinendra Dias, in connection with the death of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardene in Embilipitiya.
