The United Nations Secretary‑General Ban Ki-moon has told in a Media query that he expects Sri Lankan government will abide by the commitment made to the UN Human Rights Council in October 2015.

Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said the UN Chief "remains hopeful that the Sri Lankan Government stands by its commitments and fully implements the resolution."

The remarks were made in response to a media query on the President Maithripala Sirisena's statement that no foreign judges are welcome in the war crimes inquiry.

However, Secretary‑General states that involvement of foreign judges on the transitional justice mechanism will ensure International credibility and transparency.
