A 21-year-old Sandalwood tree at the Passasara Secretariat was illegally cut down by a group, police said.

The Sandalwood tree was planted in 1995 by a then district officer, District Secretary of Passara Nimesha Warnasinghe said.

She told the Hiru News that this tree was 15 foot tall and only the tree trunk had been taken away.
