Former Ambilipitiya ASP W. D. C. Dharmaratna, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the death of Ambilipitiya resident Sumith Prasanna’s, is scheduled to be produced before the Ambilipitiya Magistrate Courth today.
A senior CID officer said that several other police officers were being investigated in connection with the incident.
The court had also issued an order on 27th january to arrest police officers involved in the incident.
The ASP was amongst those arrested.
Meanwhile the widow of the late Sumith Prasanna filed a fundamental rights petition with the Supreme Court yesterday, demanding that the police department pay ten million rupees in compensation.
The IGP, the Attorney General and nine others have been named as respondents in her petition.
At the same time, another two victims of this incident who received injuries during the clash are also preparing to file fundamental rights cases demanding 3 million rupees compensation.
In addition, a petition was submitted to the Appeal Court on Monday requesting to issue a Mandamus Writ on the IGP to implement the Court order issued on police by the Ambilipitiya Magistrate.
The petition was filed by the widow of late Sumith Prasanna.
