Police initiated an investigation yesterday after a load of coconuts were stolen from a plantation in Galle district just before the ‘coconut dashing’ ritual organized by a part of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said the coconuts were stolen from a state plantation in Udugama area.

The ritual is to take place today in Seenigama Buddhist temple.
