The Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and the Asgiri Chapters have informed the visiting UN Human Rights Commissioner today that there is no necessity to hold an international investigation on the incidents alleged to have taken place in the last phase of war in this country.

UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, who arrived in the island on a 4 day official tour, first visited the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy and later paid a courtesy call to the Chief Prelate of Malwatu Chapter Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera. 

Later the UNHR Commissioner paid a courtesy call to the Chef Prelate of Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Galagama Sri Aththadassi Thera. 

The visiting UN Human Rights Commissioner also informed the chief prelates that the objective of his visit is to promote friendship among the nations.

UNHR Commissioner Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein who arrived in the island on Saturday toured in the North and the East yesterday. 

During his visit in the two provinces, he met the provincial governors, chief ministers and civil society leaders and held discussions on devolution of power and political prisoners.
