It is the duty of police to protect lawyers and witnesses involved in the recent Embilipitiya youth murder case, Bar Association claims.

Secretary to the association Ajith Pathirana said the lawyer appearing on behalf of the aggrieved party had received threats.

Attorney-at-Law Udul Premaratne said yesterday that victims and witnesses are under pressure as police had failed to arrest suspects connected with the murder of Embilipitiya youth.

He lodged a complaint at the National Authority for Protecting Crime Victims and Witnesses regarding the matter.

Sumith died in a clash with the police during a party held in Embilipitiya on January 07.
