Heavy traffic was reported in the Town Hall area yesterday (Thursday 11th) due to a protest launched by several professional organizations against the Indo-Sri Lankan Agreement ETCA to be signed between India and Sri Lanka.

Several professional organizations and some university students were engaged in the protest. The protesters started a march around the Viharamahadevi Park. A rally was held at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre.

The protest was organized by the United Professionals’ Movement, which a collective of unions such as the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) and Engineering Associations.

The protest was organized against the proposed ETCA-Indo-Sri Lanka Economic and Technology Cooperative Agreement.
