Lion depicted in Sri Lanka’s national flag should be replaced with a symbol representing brotherhood among all nationals, women’s organizations in Mannar propose.
This proposal was forwarded to the Public Representations Committee for proposed Constitutional Reforms in Mannar District Secretariat. The committee recorded proposals from the public on 10th and 11th February.
Representatives of Mannar women’s organizations said that the lion in the national flag represent only the Sinhala people and the symbol should be replaced by another as people of all ethnic groups are living in harmony now.
The women also proposed a separate court to punish those who rape women. They also said an independent committee must be formed to look into problems faced by women.
