The government will take steps to streamline all private buses, Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday.
He said the government is paying serious attention to a private bus monopoly taking place especially in Jaffna, Maharagama and Narahenpita areas.
Minister Karunanayake also promised to regulate busses in expressways. He added that tenders to issue new licenses for buses along expressways will be soon called. The minister also accused the previous government for issuing licenses through political influence.
He said a joint time table for state-run and private buses will soon be in place, while introducing an electronic payment system from next month.
