General Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Dr. Nalinda Herath was called by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) to record his statement.
Hiru News was told that he was questioned on Friday (12) with regard to a contradictory statement made by the association.
However, Dr. Herath told our news team that the CID’s step to question him was a government’s campaign to control them.
GMAO published a booklet stating that unqualified Indian doctors are practicing as specialists in Sri Lankan private hospitals risking lives of patients. Dr. Herath said he was questioned on a typographical error that appeared in this booklet.
Meanwhile, the GMOA is opposing the Indo-Sri Lanka Economic and Technology Cooperative Agreement (ETCA). Dr. Herath said that the government can’t tolerate their move to educate the public regarding the matter.
He added that the GMOA will call a strike if they fail to get a favourable reply from the government.
