Sri Lankan Airlines was on a loss of Rs. 145,000 million during the past seven years, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Bimal Rathnayaka said.
Addressing the Socialist Youth Union convention in Kandy he said, “This is a country where students who like to study are not given the chance. In 1990, twenty-one per cent of students who passed G.C.E A/L was admitted to state universities. But now after 25 years the number has dropped to 17 per cent. The Z-score keeps increasing but the university gates are shrinking by day.
“We brought down Sri Lankan Air Lines to COPE yesterday. During the war in 2008 Sri Lankan Airlines recorded a profit of Rs. 4428 million. Now after seven years it is on a loss of Rs. 145,000 million. We asked them to show the reasons for this loss.”
