Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera is scheduled to be presented before court for the case against threatening Sandya Eknaligoda, spouse of veteran journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.

Gnanasara Thera was put in remand custody on 26th January over several charges including contempt of court.

Thera was granted bail on 09th February for the charges of contempt of Court.

However, according to Homagama Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake’s order, Gnanasara Thera was later remanded again until today for the charges relating to the case where he had allegedly threatened the wife of journalist Pradeep Eknaligoda.

Moreover, a notice demanded Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera to be presented before the Appeal Court on 1st of March regarding a case against attacking a religious center in Thalahena area.

The notice was issued when the case was heard by Appeal Court judges Malani Gunarathna and Devika Tennakoon.

In addition, a group of monks who had surrendered to the police after being charged with regard to riotous behaviour at the Homagama court premises will also be produced before court today.

Among these are Raavanaabalaya convener Venerable Ittaeaekandey Saddhaatissa Thera, Sinhala Raavaya Chairperson Venerable Akmeemana Dayaarathana Thera, Sinhala Raavaya General Secretary Venerable Maagalkandey Sudatta Thera and three other monks.

Meanwhile, the Bodubala Senaa said that the Government was talking about racism forgetting the country’s problems.

Bodubala Senaa executive director Dilantha Vithanagey made the statement while participating at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday.
