President Maithripala Sirisena arrived at the Tegel International Airport in Berlin early this morning, to begin his two day official visit of Germany.
Chief Alliance Officer of the German government Jergen Christian Merten and Sri Lankan Embassy officials led by Ambassador Karunathilaka Amunugama received the President at the airport.
A group of Ministers including Mangala Samaraweera, Malik Samarawickrama, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Daya Gamage are part of the delegation.
Meanwhile Germany has proposed to the EU parliament to grant the GSP Plus (GSP+) concession to Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Karunathilake Amunugama stated that the German government is pleased about the development of Sri Lanka and therefore it has made this proposal to the EU.
The country will be able to increase its value of export by at least one billion rupees in the event the GSP Plus concession is reinstated.
At the same time, bilateral talks between President Maithripala Sirisena and German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be held tomorrow.
A special Guard of Honour is to be held for the President. In addition, a tour of the parliament has also been scheduled for the president.
