Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka convened a media briefing in order to express his views with regard to the demolition of houses.

The minister noted that with the exception of 35 families, all residents had been provided with housing.

It was revealed in media briefing that over 68,000 illegal residents occupy around 900 acres of land within Colombo.

The minister added that it is an objective of the government to provide these illegal occupants with alternative housing in the near future.

He also noted that the era where houses were demanded by gun point would not be tolerated.
