Members of several civil organizations demanded the opening of the road in front of the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, today.

Addressing a media conference held at the Janamadura Hall in Kandy, former Professor of University of Peradeniya, Oliver Illeperuma said the traffic congestion in the city should be eased to reduce the increasing air pollution and pointed out that the only option of reducing air pollution is to reopen the road in front of the Temple of the Tooth.

Meanwhile, the participants wore dust masks during the media conference in protest of the air pollution in the city of Kandy.

Speaking further, Professor Illeperuma said that air pollution in Kandy has increased 35 percent from the average air pollution rate.
