Around 8000 scouts along with their Scout Masters from all the districts of Sri Lanka participated at the 9th National Jamboree to be held in Jaffna from Feb 20-26 at Municipal Grounds and adjoining areas.
This is the first time a National Jamboree was being held in Northern Province and also coincides with 100 years of scouting in Jaffna. The Theme of the Jamboree is “Friendship & Understanding”.
Around 200 foreign scouts and leaders are expected from a few countries. Already Nepal, India, Malaysia and Bangladesh have confirmed their participation. Maldives is yet to confirm.
The campers will be divided in to four Sub Camps named Pidurutalagala, Namunukula, Rakwana and Samanala. The Sub camp Administration Team will administer the Sub Camps which will be headed by a sub camp Chief with a Deputy and Assistant.
Around 25 activities of Adventure, Skills, Culture, Environment, Archaeology, Traditional Games, Health and sustainable Energy will conducted between 9.00 a.m – 5.00 p.m each day.
The Jamboree will be ceremonially declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena today (Feb 22) at 4.00 p.m. at the Jaffna Central College Grounds. The Opening also coincides with Baden Powell Day.
