State has recognized leaders of the Joint Opposition (JP) as parliamentary party leaders under the provisions of the Standing Order 23 (2), MP Ranjith Soysa said.

He said the decision was made following a discussion between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The JP before remonstrated demanding to accept them as a separate party at the Parliament.

However, their protest was called off after last night’s developments, the MP said.
