Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera, who is currently on a tour of the US, has held discussions with US Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Minister Samaraweera and Samantha Power discussed the current political situation in Sri Lanka.
Minister Mangala Samaraweera also met with Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Helen Clark in New York.
The meeting focused on the support extended by the UNDP in future development programmes of Sri Lanka.
The meeting took place on the side-lines of the UNDP 50th anniversary celebrations in New York yesterday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs is also due to hold discussions with US Secretary of State John Kerry today.
