Illegal lobster breeding center raided in Point Pedro

The special unit of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency has raided an illegal lobster breeding center in point pedro- Jaffna.

Over 3000 lobsters of different breeds have been found and an individual has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Under the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act it is illegal to catch small types of lobsters while it is illegal to catch, transport and sell lobsters during the months of February, September and October.

Measures have been taken to release lobsters worth 30 million rupees back to sea.
