Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that operations at the currently dysfunctional Norochcholai Power Plant will be completely restored by this evening.
The power plant shut down on Thursday following an island-wide power outage.
Power failures continued in some parts of Colombo and its suburbs for a third day on Saturday.
CEB have urged the public to use electricity sparingly, especially after 6.00 p.m., till the power plant is fully operational.
Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry explained that once the coal-powered plant becomes dysfunctional, restoring it is a systematic process and that takes about three days.
However, the Ceylon Electricity Employees’ Union said what was necessary was to take steps to minimize the damage created by the occurrence of natural disasters and that appointing committees was useless.
CEB Union general secretary Ranjan Jayalaal told our news team that the Board resorted to disconnecting electricity without prior notice.
