8 Indian nationals arrested in connection with the trafficking of human organs
Investigations revealed that 8 Indian nationals who were arrested for overstaying in the country have close ties to the trafficking of human kidneys involving Sri Lanka and India.
Meanwhile, a spokesman from the Colombo Crimes Division told our news team that investigations have been initiated to arrest two middlemen who are involved in the trafficking of organs.
The police spokesman further said that they had found surgical incisions on the bodies of the suspects.
He also told our news team that steps will be taken to house the suspects at the special detention centre in Mirihana, until assistance from the Indian High commission is obtained to record statements from the suspects.
Indian media reported recently, for the first time that, 6 Sri Lankan doctors are involved in an illegal trafficking of human kidneys involving Sri Lanka and India.
Subsequently, the Health Ministry appointed a five member Committee to probe the alleged racket and, base on the recommendations by the particular committee; the CID has been tasked to probe this organ racket.
