The United Nations says that their aim is to ensure the conduct of a proper investigation with regard to the incidents related to the civil war in Sri Lanka.
Farhan Haq, the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, stated this while addressing a media briefing held at the UN Headquarters based in New York.
He added the UN would encourage Sri Lanka to specifically inquire into true accounts of the incidents that took place during the last phase of the civil war.
The Government - under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe - is currently taking efforts to hold the relevant investigations.
Expressing his views further, the Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General stated that it is the objective of the UN to observe these investigations being conducted with a true motive and extend their support and encouragement for the process.
