The prevailing hot and dry weather will continue until May, Department of Meteorology states.

Director of Weather Forecast Unit, Sarath Premalal, said the change of wind direction and dearth of rain is behind the unusually hot weather.

He added the increase in water temperature of the Indian Ocean has also added to the dramatic change.

Meanwhile, wildfire was reported in the areas surrounding the Hantana Mountains.

Disaster Management Center’s Director Pradeep Kodippili stated that certain groups ignite fire in forests to make hunting easier in the districts of Badulla, Moneragala, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya.
