Two thousand five hundred and ninety traffic accidents have taken place on the Southern Expressway so far since its opening, Higher Education and Highways Minister Lakshman Kiriella said in Parliament yesterday (10).
He added that 20 persons have died in the accidents while 402 suffered injuries. Minister Kiriella said the government has identified certain spots on the Southern Expressway which has a high risk of accidents and would consider to find solutions. Minister Kiriella made these observations in response to a question by UNP Parliamentarian for oral answers.
The Minister further stated that the construction of the Kandy-Colombo expressway will be commenced in June this year. He also added that the government is seeking an investor for the Ruwanpura Expressway.
