35-year-old man killed his wife and two children and committed suicide at his residence in Govindappa Naicker Street near Parry's Corner in Chennai-India in the early hours of Thursday (10).
Devendra Kumar took the extreme step as had suffered huge losses in online trading, Indian media reports.
Kumar killed his wife Deepthi, 30, and his children Surbhi, 15, and Manas, 8, by slitting their throats. Police suspect he had poisoned his family members before slitting their throats. Later, Kumar committed suicide by slitting his throat.
Surbhi was a Class 12 student while Manas was studying in Class 3.
On Wednesday, several people visited the house demanding money they had lent him. In the evening, Kumar took his family for a movie and returned home.
Kumar left behind a suicide note that said none was responsible for his decision to kill himself and his family members.
Kumar spared his father Vishwambarnath, 80, and mother Jayadevi, 70, who lived in the same house. They were sleeping in another room when the murders and suicide happened.
Before coming to the city two years ago, Kumar was living in South Africa with his family, TOI reports.
