A protest was launched in Bakamuna by Farmers representing 52 farmer organizations under the Elehera Project. They gathered at the Mahaweli Roundabout in Bakamuna.

The protesters are demanding that the government provide fertilizer at Rs. 350 and purchase their paddy harvest at an assured fixed price.  Our correspondent stated that farmers from Polonnaruwa, Minneriya, Diyabeduma, Elehera, Bakamuna and Medirigiriya have joined the protest.

Meanwhile, JVP affiliated All Ceylon Agrarian Federation filed a fundamental petition with the Supreme Court today requesting an order to enact the Paddy Marketing Board Ordinance.
