The sacred remains of the Asgiri Chapter Chief Incumbent, who passed away on Wednesday, were laid in state at the Urulaeaewatta Temple where the Prelate had lived.

The remains were subsequently taken to the Asgiri Chapter Temple later in the day. 

A massive crowd including several Ambassadors came to pay the last respects to the Mahanayaka Thera, said Hiru correspondent.

The funeral of the late Asgiri Chapter Chief Prelate, Most Venerable Galagama Aththadassi Thera will be held on the 13th of March at 2pm at the Kandy Police grounds. 

Meanwhile, Secretary of Home Affairs Ministry J.J. Rathnasiri stated that the 13th of March has been declared a national day of mourning.
