Police receive a lead relating to the driver of the van carrying 5 burnt bodies; Investigations handed over to CID
The investigation looking into the case of the five bodies found in a burnt vehicle in Dankotuwa, has been handed over to the CID.
Meanwhile Marawila Magistrate who visited the crime scene ordered the Negombo Judicial Medical Officer to conduct post mortems on the bodies and submit a report to Court.
On a tip-off received by 119, police found the bodies in the vehicle which had been abandoned on a by-road in an uninhabited area of Koshenawatta.
Police also suspect that the vehicle could have be driven to the area between 2 and 5am today.
Investigators stated that the bodies had been burnt beyond recognition.
Dankotuwa police said that the police team who reached the crime scene witnessed blood stains as far as 500 meters from where the vehicle was located.
Police said several similar murders have occurred at this location in the past.
It has been determined that the owner of the van was a resident of Colpetty.
Meanwhile the wife of Senarath Kapila Bandar alias Navy Kapila, who is believed to have been the driver , visited the crime scene today.
The investigators told our news team that there were several outstanding cases filed against him, including murder and robbery. He had also been accused of sexually abusing his own daughter.
