A kilo of Prima wheat flour was increased by Rs. 7.20 with effect from last midnight.

Thus a kilo of wheat is sold at Rs. 97.20.

The flour price has increased as the taxes on import wheat grain swelled.

A top official at the company stated that the price of wheat flour was increased due to the high tax rate imposed on imported wheat seeds.

He further noted value of the rupee decreasing by 8% in comparison to the US dollar also contributed towards the price hike.

Our news team inquired from the Chairman of Bakery Owner’s Association N.K. Jayawardena whether they intend to increase the price of bread, following the price hike of wheat flour.

He stated that they would certainly increase the price of bread accordingly, however, the decision would be taken by the association following the consumer week which would be marked from the 14th to 20th of March.
