Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha Jayaram has requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take measures to solve the issues faced by Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka.
Indian media reported the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister wrote to Premier Modi once again seeking the immediate release of 96 fishermen detained in the island.
96 Indian fishermen and 82 boats are currently in Sri Lankan custody.
Jayalalitha has also requested the Internal Affairs Ministry to intervene in order to ensure the Indian fishermen are released.
Last week, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister also requested the Indian Prime Minister to personally interfere to release the Indian fishermen.
