Presidential Committee to probe power outage

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a special committee to probe into the sudden island-wide outage.

He recommended the government must take immediate action to rectify the situation.

The new committee comprises of Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Minsiters Susil Premajayantha, Patali Chamika Ranawaka and Deputy Ministers Eran Wickramaratne and Ajith P. Perera.

Issuing a communiqué, the Presidential Media Division said that the committee’s first report is scheduled to be submitted to the President within a week.

The report should include recommendations necessary for carrying out services in a manner that public work is not negatively affected and rectifying the issues within the power sector.

While the special presidential committee is scheduled to perform necessary action within approximately three months, they are being encourage to obtain the assistance of experienced persons and experts in power and energy sector.

Meanwhile, the special presidential committee will be meeting at the ministry at 3.00p.m. today.

The CEB Chairman Anura Wijepala said that people will be notified if more power cuts would take place till Norochcholai Power Plant is fixed.
