Another group of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees, who were living in various camps in Tamil Nadu state of India, will return home today (March 15) under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) voluntary repatriation program.
The eight Sri Lankan refugee from different camps would gather at Madurai and then leave for Colombo by air on March 15, The Hindu newspaper reported citing sources.
The UNHCR assists the repatriation of the group and the German Consulate in Chennai has provided the financial support.
Since January this year, over 100 Lankan refugees have returned home under the UNHCR voluntary repatriation program.
Recently the Sri Lankan government increased the baggage allowance for the return of these refugees from 40 kg to 60 kg per person.
