British professor Andrew Wiles wins 2016 Abel Prize with $700k for solving the ‘Fermat’s Last Theorem’ that remained unsolved for 300 years.

This theorem was first posed by mathematician Pierre de Fermat in 1637, but remained an enigma for centuries till Prof. Wiles tried his hand with it and solved in 1994.

For his work Prof. Wiles was awarded the Abel Prize, known as the Nobel for mathematics, this week.
