The country now has a president who is ready to hand over power to the constitution, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said at the National Legislative Summit.
At the summit organized by the Sri Lanka Bar Association, the premier added that a pre-agenda is not required for the preparation of a new constitution.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena said he would not agree to involve foreign judges concerning the investigations of the alleged human rights violations or tribunals to hear such cases. He added the UN Human Rights Commissioner has not made a request from him with regard to appointing foreign judges.
More than 400 persons involved in the field of law participated in this year’s National Legislative Summit which was held under the theme ‘The future path of Sri Lanka’.
