Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that a special plan will be implemented during the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year as well as the Vesak festival to provide an uninterrupted supply of power.

Accordingly, he further noted that the ministry has set its sights on purchasing as many Diesel power plants as possible to meet the requirement.

The CEB had to disconnect power supply following the recent blast which occurred at the Biyagma Grid substation, and Minuwangoda - Kotugoda substation.

The CEB focused on purchasing Diesel power plants to prevent this situation from recurring in the future.

However, the Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board’s Engineers Association Athula Wanniarachchi stated that the CEB could have purchased diesel power plants for a lower rate the previous year.

However, he further noted that it was not implemented due to the Public utilities commission not intervening into the matter.

When our news team enquired the Public utilities commission concerning this matter, the Director General of the commission Damitha Kumarasinghe stated that the CEB has not informed them any matter related to the Diesel power plants.

Meanwhile, the CEB chairman Anura Wijepala says that there are no additional transformers to replace the transformer which was damaged following a blast in Kotugoda Minuwangoda.

He further told our news team that the repairs of Biyagama power plant concluded today.

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya stated that a probe concerning the transformer which blew up will be conducted by sending some of its parts to Japan.

He stated this while addressing a special media briefing held at the ministry this afternoon.
