The fire that broke out at the Bopaththalawa Reserve in Aagarapathana in Hatton yesterday has been contained.
Reports say that the fire destroyed more than 500 acres.
Police said that although requests were made, asking for the assistance of the air force to douse the fire, efforts were prevented due to heavy fog.
However a Dayagama police spokesman told our news team that the fire had been contained during the early hours of this morning.
The efforts of the Dayagama, Aagarapathana and Nuwara Eliya police stations as well as the army made this possible.
Reports say that the severe dry and windy climate in the area had caused the accelerated spread of the fire.
