Clash between police and indigenous people; Rathugala Chieftain hospitalised.

The Chieftain of Rathugala indigenous community Sudaa Vanniyale Aththo and his wife have been hospitalized after a clash between his community members and police last night. 

A policeman has also been hospitalized following the incident.

Hiru News correspondent stated that a party was held in the chieftains residence last night. 

Four persons clad in civilian clothes arrived on motor cycles and introduced themselves as policemen before launching the assault.

The chieftains wife told our news team that the four strangers switched off lights throughout the house before initiating the assault.

Hiru News team contacted the Inginiyagala Police to comment on the incident.

One of its spokesmen told that they have received several complaints about illegal gambling operating in Rathugala area.

It was also mentioned that four officers attached to the Rathmalgaha Ella police  visited the area last night. 

The spokesman further said that the members of the indigenous community had first assaulted the policemen.
