U.S.’s USS Blue Ridge has arrived in Colombo port today marking the first visit by a U.S. Navy ship since October 2011.
Following a dialogue in Washington, Sri Lanka and the U.S. pledged to strengthen maritime security cooperation in Indian Ocean to counter piracy, ensure free and safe navigation and deliver humanitarian assistance.
"A strong relationship between United States and Sri Lanka will help foster greater stability, security, prosperity, and a rules-based order for the Indo-Pacific region and around the world. This U.S. Navy ship visit demonstrates the U.S. commitment to partners such as Sri Lanka." said U.S. Ambassador Atul Keshap.
The 900 sailors onboard of Blue Ridge will interact with their SL counterparts during their stay here.
