Due to the dry weather affecting the island, people in the Kalutara, Matara, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Monaragala Districts are facing a drinking water crisis.

Reports say that people are facing severe inconvenience due to sea water mixing with pipe water sources in several areas in the Kalutara and Matara districts.

Meanwhile Water Supply and Water Drainage Board said that due to agro-chemicals mixing with water in coincidence with the dry weather people in the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Moneragala districts too were facing a drinking water crisis.

Water Supply and Water Drainage Board Chairman A. C. M. Sulfikaar Caader said that relevant awareness programmes to inform the public in this regard had been launched.

Similarly the Chairman said further that providing water through bowsers was also taking place.
