Colombo Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya today (March 30) allowed the police to obtain telephone records of two additional phone numbers of Minister Champika Ranawaka and directed them to probe the phone records of two witnesses in the case on the alleged hit-and-run accident involving Ranawaka's vehicle.

These directions were given after considering the submissions of the police and the defence lawyers.

Police told the Magistrate that the investigations on CCTV records were unsuccessful. Meanwhile they said that a seven hour statement was recorded from Ranawaka.

If Ranawaka's phone records are to probed, the phone records of the witnesses have to be recorded too, the lawyer argued. The Magistrate directed the police to do so.
