A petition has been filed with the Supreme Court citing that the National government is illegal, therefore the fundamental rights of the petitioners have been violated.

The petitioners are former UPFA MP Admiral Sarath Weerasekera and Professor Wimaladharma Abeywickrama.

242 persons including all the serving parliamentarians have been named as respondents.

The petition states that the current government is an alliance of UNP and SLFP and, other parties are not represented in it.  The petitioners therefore requested the Supreme Court to declare the government illegal.
