Police Narcotics Bureau says that they have received certain leads on local and foreign persons involved in smuggling heroin to Sri Lanka via sea.

A senior police officer told our news team that an intelligence operation in collaboration with the Interpol is currently underway to arrest these suspects.

Meanwhile, the 14 persons arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Navy in the southern seas while smuggling 101kg of heroin, are detained for questioning.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate yesterday granted consent to detain them for 7 days for questioning.

In addition, measures have been taken to inform the diplomatic offices in the relevant countries.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed through the investigations conducted so far, that drugs have been smuggled to the country from Afghanistan and Pakistan since a long period of time.
